Samsung: POWERbot VR7000 Star Wars Edition
Heart or Humor
Just when you thought the world of Star Wars couldn’t sell out any further, there’ll always be something new to shock and correct you. Here, we look at the TV commercial for Samsungs new VR7000 Star Wars Vacuum Cleaner. We’ll rate this commercial out of 10 for core advertising essentials. Have a look through our review to see what you think!
Memorability – 8 / 10
The device itself is more than memorable enough to a huge market of family adults who are fans of the Star Wars franchise, but the ad does a great job of cementing the dynamic designs in an upbeat and attractive light. The main competition in this market sells their designs by highlighting increasingly powerful technology. This is different. This approach highlights features that have never been seen before on such a device by such a world-renowned brand. This makes the entire concept extremely relative to the enormous attraction of the sci-fi sensation used to endorse it.
Effectiveness 8 / 10
This commercial shows t product off in ways that attract both men a women alike. Home-makers of either gender will be attracted to the devices supreme technological capabilities which are presented flawlessly by the choreography in the sequence. Working parents will appreciate the fact that the entire clip shows the vacuum working without the need for any human interaction. It’s a fabulous design that is further boosted by its affiliation with such a widely understood and adored entertainment brand.
Style – 7 / 10
The music and videography is top class. All members of the family unit will respond with glee, as opposed to the one-dimensional targeting that can be seen in most other vacuum commercials. There’s a reason for everyone in the home to fall in love with this product and the ad does a fantastic job of highlighting these aspects. It would have been easy and boring to simply feature a voiceover explaining all the products key abilities, but Samsung has opted to keep the script minimal to help keep the viewer’s entire focus on the choreography of the clip. No explanation is needed when the content is essentially one long all encumbering display of what the vacuum can do.
Heart or Humor – 8 / 10
The humor is a theme throughout as the functionality of the product is show off clearly and with character. Multiple references are made towards the Star Wars brand to reinforce the theme and keep the humor running throughout.
Execution – 9 / 10
We want one of these things. It can’t be helped. Not only does the product sell itself, it’s hard to imagine Samsung or any other brand coming up with a better way to present it. The setting is a perfect representation of the modern aspirational family home, the restrained script lets even more of the product’s qualities shine through and nothing can be done to improve the way Samsung have capitalized on this star studded partnership. The one thing we’d love to see included in the clip as an idea of how much it costs, but we also fully appreciate what it means when the price doesn’t make an appearance. Expect big things.
