Tesco unveiled its Christmas advert 2021. The ad focus on the idea that nothing will get in the way of Christmas this year. Moreover, Santa Claus arrives at the airport with his green pass and all is well. Some people threatening to boycott the supermarket over this scene and on the youtube Tesco ad page there are 15,000 dislikes vs 1,500 likes.
As of today there are more than 1,500 complaints to the UK ad watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
I remain of the opinion that companies should not mix advertisements with sensitive social issues. In most cases, the result will not be as expected.
I strongly object to the Tesco Christmas advert, showing Santa with a QR code pass. Tesco should not be supporting a sensitive topic. I will not be shopping a Tesco’s in the future
