Car brands love hiring movie stars and then asking them to do nothing but look expensive behind the wheel. Mercedes-AMG’s “Too Hard to Resist” launch film, titled “Action, please!”, at least admits the joke: it casts Brad Pitt as a Hollywood star who simply refuses to stop driving the car he was hired to act next to. The 1:23 spot went up on the official Mercedes-AMG YouTube channel on October 2, 2026, as the global launch of the new all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe campaign.

WHAT HAPPENS ON SCREEN

The film opens with a fake red-band trailer card: “The following preview has been approved for restricted audience only,” with a rating box warning of “highly addictive images, fast cuts, highspeed, sensual curves and overly used action.” Then comes a letterboxed action-movie trailer played straight: a matte dark GT 4-Door Coupe on an arched Los Angeles viaduct, a made-up “Rolling Speed Studios” card, a blood-red “Starring Brad Pitt” super, Pitt in aviators hitting the start button, and a slammed-together “TOO HARD TO RESIST” title. A stuntman sprints from the car, leaps across shipping containers and hits the ground in a cloud of tire smoke.

Then somebody yells “Cut,” and the trailer is revealed as the film within the film. We are on a container-yard set with a harried director in heavy glasses and a producer at the monitors. Pitt, still in the driver seat, asks for “another shot” – and keeps asking. Take after take, he twists the drive-mode dial, drifts, and leaves the crew in smoke. The stuntman is now late for his own jump and lands on an empty mat. Pitt misses his mark, apologizes, and offers to go again “with more enthusiasm.” At golden hour, the pyro finally goes off behind the parked car while the director and producer stand there defeated, and Pitt grins out of the window: “One more time, guys. I promise.” A drone shot rises over the set for the “TOO HARD TO RESIST” line, the “all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe” super and the AMG and Mercedes-Benz logos.

CREDITS

Brand: Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-Benz Group). Product: the all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (AMG.EA architecture). Campaign: “TOO HARD TO RESIST”; hero film: “Action, please!” (1:23). Talent: Brad Pitt, named by Mercedes as brand ambassador for the car. Creative: team x (Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated creative partner, which describes itself as a business partner rather than an agency). Production company: Tony Petersen Film. Director: Simon McQuoid. Sources: the Mercedes-Benz Group press release of October 2, 2026, Adwoche (October 3, 2026) and the official YouTube descriptions. The actors playing the director and producer are not named, and no media agency, editor or DOP is cited.

THE EXECUTION

The structure is the smartest thing here. Mercedes’ own release describes the idea as the tension between “a perfectly choreographed Hollywood production” and the urge to just drive, and the film literally stages that as two halves: a slick, over-graded fake trailer, then the messy set that produced it. The red-band card is a good gag because it does double duty – it mocks car-ad cliches (“overly used action”) while also delivering every one of those cliches in the next 20 seconds.

Simon McQuoid, who directed the 2021 Mortal Kombat feature, knows how to shoot the trailer part: low wide angles on the bridge, a moody teal-and-amber grade, punchy title graphics. The second half loosens into a behind-the-scenes rhythm, with reaction close-ups doing most of the comedy. Pitt plays it lightly and self-aware, which is the right register for a man who spent 2025 promoting a racing movie. The car stays a constant presence – burnouts, drifts, yellow brake calipers, the drive-mode dial – so the star never upstages the product.

WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN’T

What works: the “one more take” premise is a clean, repeatable way to say “this car is fun to drive” without a spec sheet, and it gives AMG a campaign line that sounds like a confession rather than a boast. The fake trailer opening is a genuinely good hook for YouTube, where viewers have learned to skip anything that looks like a car ad. And the late pyro going off behind a parked car is the best visual joke in the film.

What doesn’t: once the premise is clear, the middle section repeats it rather than escalating it. Late stunts and exasperated crew faces are pleasant but predictable, and at 1:23 the joke runs about 20 seconds long. More importantly, the spot says almost nothing about what makes this car different. This is AMG’s electric four-door, a big shift for a brand built on V8 noise, yet the film never mentions electrification, sound or range – all of that is left to the press release. Hiding the EV story behind tire smoke may be deliberate, but swap the badge and the same script would work for almost any performance sedan.

VERDICT

“Action, please!” is a polished, likeable celebrity car spot with one good idea and a great fake-trailer opening. Pitt is well used, McQuoid gives it real gloss, and the line is acted out rather than shouted. But it plays it safe exactly where it could have been interesting: an electric AMG is the story, and the film treats it like any other fast car. Fun to watch, easy to forget. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
