Liquid I.V. spent its Super Bowl money on a chorus of singing toilets asking America to check the color of its pee. Eight months later, the electrolyte brand has signed up with the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team and swapped the bathroom humor for lab coats, telemetry and two of the most marketable drivers on the grid. “Thirst for More,” a 30-second spot featuring Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, is slick, fast and expensive-looking. It is also the most generic thing Liquid I.V. has put out in years.

WHAT HAPPENS ON SCREEN

The film opens with a radio-style greeting: “Good morning! It’s another hot one today. Stay hydrated out there.” We get Norris and Piastri side by side in McLaren team kit, then a tight profile of a driver tipping back a Liquid I.V. bottle. From there the edit leans hard on split screens and matched cuts, one half of the frame showing McLaren’s world, the other half showing the product.

A hand passes a bottle across the frame, a stick pack is handed over in front of the car, engineers stare at a wall of monitors in a dim operations room, and a McLaren team member tears open a sachet. Powder pours into a glass jar, then we go macro on condensation running down the side of a bottle while the words “clinically proven” slide across the screen. The voiceover does the selling: “When every second matters, every decision prepares you for what’s next. So you can keep going with the only sugar-free hydration clinically proven to hydrate faster than water alone.”

The second half brings the racing. The car slides onto the frame, a helmet-cam style shot of a driver in the cockpit is paired with a hot pink and yellow weather heat map, and a wheel gun hits a tyre during a pit stop. The line “Because the drive to do more never stops” leads into the payoff: a driver drinking under hard studio light, “THIRST FOR MORE” written across the frame, and an end card with the bottle and the McLaren x Liquid I.V. lockup as the voice signs off with “Fuel your thirst for more with Liquid I.V.”

CREDITS

Brand: Liquid I.V. Film: “THIRST FOR MORE | McLaren x Liquid I.V.,” 30 seconds, uploaded to the official Liquid I.V. YouTube channel on October 20, 2026. Talent: McLaren F1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Agency: UEG Worldwide, the sports and entertainment agency, per Adweek (October 20, 2026), which also quotes Brittany Shaw, vice president of integrated marketing at Liquid I.V. It is the first campaign under the brand’s multi-year deal as the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team’s official functional hydration partner. Not cited in the sources we checked: the director, production company, editor and music.

THE EXECUTION

On craft, there is little to complain about. The palette is disciplined, teal studio light against papaya orange kit, and the product’s white bottle sits cleanly between the two. The split-screen device is the one real idea, and it is used with some wit: the handover of a bottle across the frame, the jar of powder rhymed with the precision of the garage, the cold condensation answered by the heat map. The pacing never lets you settle, which suits both F1 and a 30-second pre-roll.

The problem is that the device stops at the visual rhyme. Adweek reports the brand wanted to connect McLaren’s testing and precision with Liquid I.V.’s hydration science, but the film never shows a test, a number or a consequence. Heat is mentioned in the first line and then dropped. We never see a driver struggle, a lap time slip or a reaction time measured. “Clinically proven” flashes past as a caption, which is exactly how every competitor in the category uses the phrase.

WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN’T

What works: the casting is a gift, and the spot uses it efficiently. Norris and Piastri are on screen in the first two seconds, the team colors do the brand recognition work for McLaren fans, and the product is in almost every shot without the film feeling like a pack-shot reel. The opening radio greeting is a nice, human touch in an otherwise very polished world, and the end card is clear about who is partnering with whom.

What doesn’t: the drivers are props. They drink, they stare, they wear the kit, and neither says a word. Swap the logo on the bottle and this could be a launch film for any sports drink, energy drink or protein shake that has bought a seat in motorsport, and plenty have. The voiceover is a string of performance cliches, “every second matters,” “the drive to do more never stops,” that could have been written before the deal was signed. For a brand that built its name on challenging category norms, as its own marketer told Adweek, this is the category norm, executed well.

VERDICT

“Thirst for More” is a competent sponsorship launch that looks like it cost what the partnership cost. It will play well on race weekends and in McLaren fan feeds, and the split-screen idea gives it a little structure. But after the singing toilets, it is a step back into the safest corner of the category: athletes, slow-motion sips and a borrowed sense of precision that the film never proves. Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
